Call a specialist to talk about Mozambique now.

Mozambique is an up and coming holiday destination on the Indian Ocean coast of East Africa.  The country has come on in leaps and bounds after the end of the civil war there and many areas in the country are now deservedly becoming top tourism hotspots, with luxurious and exclusive beach lodges.

The capital of Mozambique is Maputo in the south, which has regular flights from Johannesburg and Nairobi.  The beautiful sandy islands of Bazaruto and Benguerra lie just off the coast from Vilanculos in the south of the country, while in the far north is the exclusive Quirimbas Archipelago, a chain of 32 idyllic coral islands, off the mainland from Pemba.

There are limited safari opportunities in the country although the game reserves are not long established so the effects of poaching are still very noticeable and wildlife numbers are not at the same level as in neighbouring countries. [cont.]

Mozambique is a perfect place for a beach holiday after a safari in Botswana, being especially suitable for honeymooners, families, divers and water-sports enthusiasts, plus those looking for an exclusive retreat from the modern world.  There is a large variety of activities and plenty of interesting marine wildlife to interact with - try snorkelling with whale sharks, swimming with dolphins or diving with manta rays for an unforgettable experience.

A beach holiday to Mozambique from the UK after a Botswana safari will typically involve flying on to Johannesburg and up to Vilanculos or Pemba, and then back home via Johannesburg.  Typically an overnight stop will be required in Jo’burg on the way out.

Getting there

FromBotswana you will need to fly from Maun or Kasane to Johannesburg and then from Johannesburg to either Vilanculos, Maputo or Pemba with LAM.  Most of the beach resorts are reachable by short boat, plane or helicopter trip from Vilanculos or Pemba airports.

Weather

Mozambique is an attractive destination year-round, although during their summer (December - April) there is higher chance of rain and it does get humid and hot.  The best time of year to visit is May - November, which is cooler and drier; blue skies and temperatures averaging between 24°C and 27°C along the coast are typical.

Health

There are no compulsory requirements other than yellow fever if arriving from a yellow fever-infected country (which does not include Botswana).  Mozambique is a malarial area and precautions should be taken.
